Elkins City Park

This gem of a park near the center of town was deeded to the city in 1893 by Senator Henry Gassaway Davis and his wife Kate. When first designated a park, it was filled with 300-year-old oak trees and was essentially a primeval forest, complete with ferns and rhododendron.

Located near downtown Elkins and adjacent from Davis & Elkins College, the Elkins City Park has become the hub of activities for many events from Augusta Festival to the Forest Festival. Within the 9 acres, there are picnic sites, pavilions, horseshoe pits, and a basketball court, along with modern playground equipment and many other park amenities.

Its mature oaks and landscaped flower beds create a wonderful place to have family gatherings, whether a large reunion or a simple afternoon break with the kids. Through cooperative efforts of the community and funding from the city, the Elkins City Park is one of the nicest in the state.
