SUMMARY:Beyond the Stigma: A Free Training for the Community
DESCRIPTION:Many businesses are struggling to fill open positions right now. This is partly because of a shortage of people seeking work\, of course. But is it possible that inaccurate stereotypes and unfair perceptions keep some employers from considering all possible candidates?\n\nNegative beliefs about people recovering from addiction\, or substance abuse disorder\, include the assumption that they are unreliable and will eventually relapse. But most people who seek recovery from addiction do succeed.\nIt’s true: Addiction\, or substance use disorder\, is a treatable chronic health condition.\n\nBut negative attitudes about people suffering from this disorder make recovery much harder than it needs to be. When we judge and stigmatize people working on getting their lives back on track after addiction\, we make it harder to seek treatment\, gain employment\, and even find housing.\n\nYou can help the many people in our community battling negative perceptions about addiction as they do the hard work of getting better and getting their lives on track—and you might just find your next employee\, tenant\, or friend by doing so.\n\nSign up today for a free Addressing Stigma training session designed to help you counter the negative forces of stigma in our community.
