SUMMARY:Burial at Thebes | Myles Center
DESCRIPTION:“Whoever has been spared the worst is lucky.”\nIn Nobel Prize-winning poet Seamus Heaney’s acclaimed adaptation of Antigone\, luck is in short supply. Set in the aftermath of a devastating civil war\, The Burial at Thebes pits the newly crowned King Creon\, determined to secure a fragile peace\, against his defiant niece Antigone\, who is driven by love\, grief\, and an unwavering sense of duty to her family. When Antigone challenges Creon’s decree by honoring her fallen brother with burial rites\, a tragic chain of events is set in motion. As personal conviction collides with political authority\, no one escapes the consequences.\nThroughout the play\, Heaney invokes the tradition of keening\, a form of vocal lament historically practiced in Ireland and Scotland. Inspired by these echoes of collective mourning and the rhythmic\, musical power of the Greek chorus\, this production incorporates elements of Highland culture.  We’re excited to collaborate with members of the WV Highland Dancers to create a distinctive theatrical experience that bridges ancient tragedy and our contemporary audience.\n\nOctober 15\, 16\, and 17 at 7:30 pm in the Harper McNeely Auditorium in the Myles Center for the Arts on the Davis & Elkins College campus.\nLimited Seating! Reservations Required!\n$10 tickets. FREE with D&E ID!\n\nTicket Link: https://daviselkinscollege.formstack.com/forms/d_e_theatre_reservations
