SUMMARY:Author Event: Timothy G. Huguenin in Conversation With Ashley Lawson
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning horror author and Elkins resident Timothy G. Huguenin will be\ndiscussing his work and signing books this Saturday evening\, 6 p.m. on June 22nd\, at Alexandria\non Main. \nDr. Ashley Lawson\, Associate Professor of English at West Virginia Wesleyan College\, will be\nfacilitating the conversation with Huguenin about his books\, which include the West Virginia\nAuthor Project winner When the Watcher Shakes\, the Canaan Valley ghost story Little One\, and\nhis strange and horrifying novella Unknowing\, I Sink. All of his books are set in his home state of\nWest Virginia. \n“Growing up in these mountains has greatly impacted my writing\,” Huguenin states. “Even when\nI am aiming to scare readers\, I also strive to establish a strong sense of place and convey the\nbeauty of West Virginia and her people. There has been a dismaying trend in the horror genre of\npromoting offensive stereotypes of Appalachians. I want to represent West Virginians fairly in\nmy fiction\, with the dignity and respect we deserve.” \nHis literary heroes include not only horror masters like Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe\, but\nalso the acclaimed West Virginia authors Denise Giardina and Davis Grubb. \nIn addition to writing novels\, Timothy G. Huguenin is an accomplished writer of short fiction.\nHis stories have appeared in various publications including YNST Magazine\, Anthology of\nAppalachian Writers Vol. XI\, and The Saturday Evening Post. \nFollowing his discussion with Dr. Lawson\, Huguenin will meet fans and sign his books\, which\nare available for purchase at Alexandria on Main. \nTickets for the event are limited and can be purchased online at www.alexandriaonmain.com.

SUMMARY:William Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST
DESCRIPTION:The Rustic Mechanicals 2024 Thundering Hearts Tour of William Shakespeare’s THE TEMPEST will play the Citizen’s Bank Amphitheater in Elkins\, WV on Saturday\, June 22 at 7pm.\n\nThis is a FREE performance.\n\nOn a distant island\, a man waits. Robbed of his position\, power\, and wealth\, his enemies have left him in isolation. But this is no ordinary man\, and this is no ordinary island. Prospero\, the rightful Duke of Milan\, is a magician\, able to control the very elements and bend nature to his will. When a sail appears on the horizon\, he reaches out across the ocean to the ship that carries the men who wronged him. Creating a vast magical storm\, he wrecks the ship and washes his enemies up onto shore. When they wake\, they find themselves lost on a fantastical island where nothing is as it seems.
