SUMMARY:"Ways of Knowing" Indigenous Appalachia Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Ways of Knowing: Indigenous Connections to Landscape and Place in Central Appalachia\nSaturday\, November 9\nMyles Center\, Davis & Elkins College\, Elkins WV from 9:30 to 4:30\, followed by a reception closing the 2024 Creating Home exhibit at Appalachian Forest Discovery Center. \nThe Ways of Knowing symposium is the culmination of our year-long project exploring Indigenous Appalachia. The speakers at this one-day event will discuss various approaches to Indigenous knowledge. Discussions will cover archeological insights\, Native culture\, traditions\, language\, and folklore. Comparing traditional Indigenous knowledge to western versions of archaeology\, history\, ethics of land use\, and religion will open insights to modern social concerns of Indigenous communities. Admission is $30 and lunch is included in ticket price. Scholarships for free attendance are available for students\, AmeriCorps members\, Indigenous people\, or needs-based applicants. This event will be livestreamed and recorded. DESCRIPTION:THE SET UP TIME OF THE SWAP will be at 5:30pm\, swap starting at 6:30pm and going until 8pm.\nBELOW is how the swap works:\n***PLEASE READ THIS POST IN ITS ENTIRETY and then share with your mom friends!!\nThis event will be like CHRISTMAS SHOPPING FOR FREEEEEE for your kids!!\nINVITE A FRIEND OR TWO BECAUSE THE MORE THERE IS TO SWAP\, THE MORE FUN THIS EVENT WILL BE!!! \nWhat do you need to know?\n1. Each toy or clothing set ( pants/shirts\, matching hats/mittens\,etc.) will be worth one point each. Please sort appropriately by gender and size. If you bring five items you get five tickets! There is no limit that you can donate!\n2. Toys can be new\, old\, or gently used\, but toys that are broken/have missing pieces or clothes that are stained/ripped will NOT be accepted.\n3. All items MUST be washed and cleaned.\n4.If you do not have items to swap\, you cannot participate in the FIRST day of the event.\n5. On day TWO of the event (same place\, but time is 11am -2pm) every item will be price marked SUPER CHEAP as a church fundraiser AND ANYONE CAN PARTICIPATE!\n6.Once the event has concluded\, leftover toys and clothes will be donated to a school or charity!! So if you have a recommendation\, LET ME KNOW!\n***Disclaimer: Please DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN TO THE EVENT. This is for moms to do their shopping and have a little time for themselves(plus you want to keep the surprises from the kids).
