Felting is considered the oldest form of textile making in the world. While only a few nomadic cultures still rely on housing made of wool\, the skill of wet felting is equally applicable to the creation of wearable and decorative items. In this class beginners will learn properties of various wools\, why felting works\, and all of the steps to create and decorate a feted square which can be used as a trivet.

DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Needle Felting\, Workshop\nThursday\, January 16\, 2020\n1:00 PM 4:00 PM\nIntroduction to needle felting\, Adults\nInstructor: Kate Goodrich Arling \nFiber/textile \nJanuary 16\, 2020\, 1:00-4:00 PM\nOR\nsame day from 5:30 to 830 pm \nCost $40 Members and $52 Non Members \nClass Description: Needle felting as an art/craft form grew out of the industrial creation of large sheets of felt for automobile insulation\, piano keys and other such uses. While those applications utilize machines with hundreds of sharp\, barbed needles to mechanically tangle fibers into a sturdy fabric\, students in this class will use single needles to create both a dimensional heart shaped ornament and a simple but complex looking pendant for a necklace. Both wool fibers and a variety of cotton\, silk\, and other fibers will be available for decoration as students learn this relatively new art.
