SUMMARY:Rosie the Riveter Celebration @ Elkins Town Square Amphitheater
DESCRIPTION:Our Town is planning a Rosie the Riveter celebration on Labor Day\, Monday\, September 6 to celebrate those women who were the backbone of our homefront military effort during WW II.  The event is scheduled to occur at the Rotary Amphitheater beginning at 12 noon.  Those of all ages who are attending are welcome to bring a chair\, a blanket\, a sun umbrella and a lunch as we celebrate this day. .  There will be presentations\, music\, dance and participant involvement. Everyone will be asked to bring a bell of any size to join in the world wide bell ringing ceremony at  1 pm.  Those coming dressed as the stereotypical Rosie will be eligible for door prizes.  This event is a national and international celebration and Elkins wants to be part of the recognition for these special women\, many from our area and a few who still live among us. And while the fashion in which we celebrate is changing\, the meaning is not.\nAn entirely outdoor event (barring a public health disaster or terrible weather)\, we invite you to join us from 3pm to 7pm for a celebration of winter\, the changing seasons\, and a pre-Lenten tradition that dates back to 1520 in Switzerland.\n\nWe will enjoy fatty foods\, listen to our beloved Helvetia Star Band\, wear homemade masks to scare away Covid…ahem\, I mean…Old Man Winter\, parade with lampions\, and burn an effigy of the Old Man in hopes for a healthy and happy spring.\nPlease join us\, double masked [wink]\, for a celebration that is dear to our community. We only ask that you participate with care and with public health in mind as our aging community needs lots of tenderness these days.\n\nMasquerade – donations appreciated ($10 per adult suggested) includes entry into masked party\, light refreshments\, toy prize for the children\, and attendance to bonfire for the burning of Old Man Winter.\nBring CASH because many local businesses do not accept credit cards.
