DESCRIPTION:The Thirteenth Annual Ramps and Rail Festival will be held on April 29th\, 2023. The festival continues to grow each year and the Depot hopes everyone will come again this year! You can try different ramp-themed foods and listen to live music\, enjoy the craft vendors\, and vote for your favorite vendors. \nEach year the festivities start at 10am and continue until 4pm. Food vendors concoct delicious ramp-themed foods\, like ramp burgers\, ramperoni rolls\, ramp chili\, and ramp risotto with shrimp. There will be about fifty different food and craft booths at the festival. The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad has train rides available to those who want to take one of the first rides of the year. \nThe Elkins Ramps & Rail Festival returns on April 29\, 2023! You never know what might be there!\nThis is our best lineup yet. We have bands coming from Cincinnati\, Boston\, New York\, as well as some great in state talent and our final concert is an up and coming artist who is super talented and just happens to be from WV!\nDuring our annual 4th of July car show weekend we have THREE free concerts\, starting with the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast on Thursday\, Ryan Cain and the Ables bringing rockabilly for the first night of cars\, and then crowd favorite Rick K’s Road Trip Will be back on Saturday night followed by a huge fireworks display that will be right over our heads at the stage area this year. It’s going to be great!\nWe are hoping to see some big crowds. So\, Please share this and watch for this poster around the area.

DESCRIPTION:Augusta is presenting a new series of foodways classes in Elkins\, WV! The classes will be taught by experienced chefs and home cooks from a variety of cultures represented in Appalachia today. Classes will cover specific dishes such as arepas\, adobo\, tomato sauce\, meatballs\, pizzelles\, pepperoni rolls\, dumplings\, fried chicken\, and collard greens\, as well as addressing topics such as cooking fresh in food deserts\, using local seasonal ingredients and canning and pickling techniques. Students can expect to come away from each class with hands-on knowledge about how to make a dish and hopefully a deeper understanding of the importance of that dish to the people whose kitchens it sprang from. \nWhat are foodways?\nFoodways are more than food itself — they are the beliefs and context surrounding food\, the person-to-person teaching of its preparation\, as well as the community in which the food is enjoyed. The passing down of food traditions from one generation to the next is an integral piece of a community’s identity and culture. We use food to deepen community ties\, celebrate important holidays\, mark milestones\, and enrich our lives. DESCRIPTION:The Tygart Valley chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) will be hosting their free event\, JAKES Day\, on Saturday at the Mountaineer Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA) Clubhouse. \nJAKES\, which is an acronym for “Juniors Acquiring Knowledge\, Ethics & Sportsmanship\,” will be open to kids ages 8 to 17. The event will feature several learning stations\, such as fishing\, trap shooting\, air rifle shooting and more. There will also be door prizes at the end of the event. Lunch will be provided by members of the IWLA. \nThe event will be from 9 a.m. to around 2 p.m. on Saturday. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and children must be registered by 9 a.m. to be eligible for the door prizes. \nAny children in attendance under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult for the entirety of the event \nThe NWTF is asking participants to please dress appropriately for weather conditions. \nFor more information\, contact the IWLA clubhouse at 304-636-4140. \n
