The festivities take place in the tree-shaded Elkins City Park. The Augusta Festival includes a juried craft fair featuring 40 of the best regional artisans\, delicious food from our vendors\, live music\, workshops\, craft demonstrations\, jam sessions\, and children’s activities. Also taking place is the West Virginia Open Fiddle & Banjo Contest. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public\, rain or shine. \nVendors will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. \nFull schedule of workshops\, music and more will be posted here in June! \nWould you like to vend at the Augusta Festival? Fill out this application! The first round of vendor applications is due April 14 and notifications will be made shortly thereafter. If spaces remain\, rolling submissions will be accepted.

There’s no entry fee and cars start arriving at 5.\nWe know that some of our sponsors are planning to have a presence as well as some other organizations and food vendors. You never know what might be there!\nThis is our best lineup yet. We have bands coming from Cincinnati\, Boston\, New York\, as well as some great in state talent and our final concert is an up and coming artist who is super talented and just happens to be from WV!\nDuring our annual 4th of July car show weekend we have THREE free concerts\, starting with the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast on Thursday\, Ryan Cain and the Ables bringing rockabilly for the first night of cars\, and then crowd favorite Rick K’s Road Trip Will be back on Saturday night followed by a huge fireworks display that will be right over our heads at the stage area this year. DESCRIPTION:Swiss National Day usually is held on the first Saturday of August in Helvetia. It commemorates the day in 1291 on which three Alpine cantons (similar to states in the U.S.) swore the oath of confederation. This is regarded as the foundation of Switzerland. \nThe day is celebrated with a cookout in the Meadow starting around 5pm\, singing of folk songs\, yodeling\, folk dances\, fahnenschwingen (tossing of the Swiss flag)\, talerschwingen (rolling a Swiss coin around the inside of an earthenware bowl to create a rhythm)\, alpine horns\, and a square dance.

The classes will be taught by experienced chefs and home cooks from a variety of cultures represented in Appalachia today. Classes will cover specific dishes such as arepas\, adobo\, tomato sauce\, meatballs\, pizzelles\, pepperoni rolls\, dumplings\, fried chicken\, and collard greens\, as well as addressing topics such as cooking fresh in food deserts\, using local seasonal ingredients and canning and pickling techniques. Students can expect to come away from each class with hands-on knowledge about how to make a dish and hopefully a deeper understanding of the importance of that dish to the people whose kitchens it sprang from. \nWhat are foodways?\nFoodways are more than food itself — they are the beliefs and context surrounding food\, the person-to-person teaching of its preparation\, as well as the community in which the food is enjoyed. The passing down of food traditions from one generation to the next is an integral piece of a community’s identity and culture. We use food to deepen community ties\, celebrate important holidays\, mark milestones\, and enrich our lives.
