SUMMARY:Augusta Craft Class - Waffle Weaving and Color Explorations with Wendy Clark

It will be easier if the student comes with some basic knowledge of dressing the loom\, but we can all work together to help each other in this process. We will explore how to work with color as we design and weave waffle weave 4/5 towels. Towels are a wonderful class project because they are relatively easy to weave and do not take that much time to weave. Using the towels at home helps to keep the class in the weaver’s mind at home. In this class all students will use the same structure\, yet will explore different colors in their own warp and wefts.\nDay to day objectives include: color and choosing color; reading a weaving draft and measuring the warp; dressing the loom; weaving the towels; finishing the towels.\nWe will weave with unmercerized cotton in various colors both for warp and weft.\nStudents should bring:\n– scissors\n– tape measure\n– sketchbook or notebook\n– gallon size zip lock bag\nThere will be a $60 materials fee added to your total when you register for this class.\nAbout The Instructor\nA weaver\, dyer\, quilter\, spinner and knitter\, Wendy Clark has followed a path of creativity nurtured by the women in her life; her mother\, grandmothers and mother in law. Wendy has been focused on weaving full time since 2012 after leaving a 30 year career of teaching art at the college and high school levels. Imagine the constant sound of a creek and the river – water flowing – this is where Wendy’s studio is. Hidden along a mountain side road\, next to a creek and just up from the Tygart River in Barbour Country. Wendy hand dyes natural yarns for weaving baby wraps\, shawls\, scarves and textiles for the home. Her home and studio provide a quiet place for her work that reflects the blending of the traditional with contemporary. She works to blend her hand dyed colors providing harmony and story telling within each piece of woven work. Wendy has two looms – and 8 shaft and a 40 shaft. Exploring weave structure and color provides endless opportunity for growth. Wendy has two spinning wheels on which she explores harmony in spinning yarns for both her weaving and knitting. Harmony and blending are recurring themes in Wendy”s work. Wendy is the owner of The Yarn Basket in Philippi\, WV\, a yarn store. She teaches knitting classes in small groups and individually. Wendy is writing a book on knitting socks and hopes to continue to share her knowledge of fibers to others so that these invaluable skills can be passed from generation to generation. Wendy has been knitting and weaving since her childhood.
