DESCRIPTION:Helvetia welcomes you to celebrate our 59th Annual Fasnacht.\nAn indoor and outdoor event\, we invite you to join us from 12p to 10p for a celebration of winter\, the changing seasons\, and a pre-Lenten tradition that dates back to 1520 in Switzerland. Sometimes called the Mardi Gras of Appalachia\, Fasnacht is German for “fasting night\,” which celebrates a grand feast before a fast. Helvetia’s Fasnacht combines the customs of the Swiss Fasnacht and Sechseläuten\, a traditional spring holiday celebrated in the Swiss city of Zürich where they burn an effigy of winter to welcome spring.\nWe will enjoy fatty foods\, listen to Swiss & Appalachian tunes\, wear homemade masks to scare away Old Man Winter\, parade with lampions\, and burn an effigy of the Old Man in hopes of a healthy and happy spring.\nPlease join us for a celebration that is dear to our community. We only ask that you participate with care and tenderness toward our small village. DESCRIPTION:The 16th Annual Ramps and Rail Festival will be held on April 25\, 2026 at the Elkins Depot Welcome Center. The festival continues to grow each year and the Depot hopes everyone will come again this year! You can try different ramp-themed foods and listen to live music\, enjoy the craft vendors\, and vote for your favorite vendors. \nEach year the festivities start at 10am and continue until 4pm. For the second year\, we are expanding from the Town Square onto Railroad Ave and 3rd St\, making even more room for vendors. Ramp lovers and first-timers alike can find something delicious to enjoy\, from ramp-burgers and hotdogs to dumplings and eggrolls. There will be over 75 food and craft booths at the festival. DESCRIPTION:Mother’s Day weekend activities are now being planned. Plans for a free music concert at Hamill Park on Friday evening \, May 8th at 6:00 pm\, a parade with line up at 12:30 and kick off at 1:30 pm\, a music show featuring Lynnlee Shearer at the park on Saturday after the parade from 2:00-4:00 pm\, a free pork BBQ dinner after the parade compliments of the town with Charlie Wegman\, and a wrestling event at TVHS on Saturday evening. Dennis Defibaugh has invested a lot of time and effort in getting these activities together for the enjoyment of the valley folks. I know other plans have also been planned by the fire department including a cake walk\, craft show\, a chicken burn dinner. The Senior Center will be cooking Mother’s Day breakfast on Sunday morning.
