SUMMARY:Wilderness First Aid
DESCRIPTION:You or a friend or family member is injured in the wilderness\, an urban disaster zone\, a remote rural area or just a few miles from cell phone service … what would you do? Learn how to save life and limb during the critical minutes or hours before ambulance/hospital hand-off.\nThe MEDIC SOLO Disaster + Travel + Wilderness First Aid Course is a blended experience of classroom and hands-on learning.  About half of student time is spent rotating as mock rescuer and mock patient in realistic care-giving scenarios\, making the most of learning-by-doing\, and forming muscle memory.\nWho: For adults and focused youths ages 14+\nWhat: Hands-on learn how to care for an injured/ill person during the critical minutes or hours before ambulance/hospital arrival. Results in a 2-year internationally-renowned SOLO WFA certification.\nWhen: August 21-22\, 2021\, 8:00am – 5:00pm each day\nCost: $245 before August 1 ($260 August 1 and after)\nHow: Blend of classroom instruction & hands-on rescue scenario practice\nCOVID Adaptations: Due to COVID-19 restrictions\, participants must bring a designated partner/co-participant for first aid practice or you will have to practice on inanimate objects! SUMMARY:Wilderness First Responder
DESCRIPTION:SOLO’s Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is the recognized industry standard for those who work as backcountry trip leaders\, camp counselors\, mountain guides\, river guides\, and ski patrollers. What is taught?The WFR is 72-80 hours long (10 days)\, and is a comprehensive and in-depth look at the standards and skills of dealing with: Response and Assessment\, Musculoskeletal Injuries\, Environmental Emergencies and Survival Skills\, Soft Tissue Injuries\, and Medical Emergencies. Although these appear to be the same basic topics covered in our two-day WFA course\, they are covered far more extensively\, and there is much more hands-on practice. Additional topics\, such as CPR\, are also included. Who is the WFR course for?The WFR is the perfect course for anyone working in a position of leadership in an outdoor setting or for individuals who want a high level of wilderness medical training for extended personal backcountry trips or expeditions. Course Options and CostsWFR: course only: $875 Includes course\, tent space\, access to bath house (price goes up to $900 July 1st) Meals:  $36 additional per night (3 meals per night\, 8 or 9 nights depending on arrival) Lodging: Beds in the dorm: $15 additional per night (8 or more nights depending on arrival and departure) Private yurt: $60 additional per night.
