SUMMARY:National Swiss Holiday @ Helvetia
DESCRIPTION:Honoring our Swiss roots\, Helvetia will celebrate Switzerland’s National Holiday on Saturday\, July 31. We’re celebrating a little differently than years past\, but it will be a grand time. \nIn the early evening (6:30pm)\, we welcome you to take a tour of our small museum and ask about our history with local historians/archivists\, Anna Chandler and Eleanor Betler. Our original Swiss flag hangs in the museum (take a peek). The flag was brought to Helvetia by the Swiss settlers in the 1870s and requires some preservation. HRDO hosts this free event\, in part\, to bring awareness to Helvetia’s preservation efforts. \nAt sunset (around 8:30pm)\, we’ll watch the movie “Heidi” outside (weather permitting). Cohosted by the Helvetia Public Library\, we welcome you to bring your blankets\, chairs\, snacks and drinks (no food will be served at the event). \nThis event is FREE\, but donations toward our original Swiss flag’s preservation are welcome. Please come snuggle into Helvetia’s hills for a celebration of our Swiss ancestry.

He has roots in nearby Tucker County\, WV and his gentle and supportive approach to health care has nurtured everyone from young runners to world record holders. SUMMARY:Rosie the Riveter Celebration @ Elkins Town Square Amphitheater
DESCRIPTION:Our Town is planning a Rosie the Riveter celebration on Labor Day\, Monday\, September 6 to celebrate those women who were the backbone of our homefront military effort during WW II.  The event is scheduled to occur at the Rotary Amphitheater beginning at 12 noon.  Those of all ages who are attending are welcome to bring a chair\, a blanket\, a sun umbrella and a lunch as we celebrate this day. .  There will be presentations\, music\, dance and participant involvement. Everyone will be asked to bring a bell of any size to join in the world wide bell ringing ceremony at  1 pm.  Those coming dressed as the stereotypical Rosie will be eligible for door prizes.  This event is a national and international celebration and Elkins wants to be part of the recognition for these special women\, many from our area and a few who still live among us.
