DESCRIPTION:We hope you will join us for a Gravel Extravaganza exploring the hollows on and around Spruce Knob. We will take you on guided and supported tours of the highest peaks in the Alleghenies. You’ll find friendship\, personal challenge\, and amazing views of the remote farming and wilderness filled valleys of these ancient mountains.\nOur mission is to provide high-quality outdoor programming as a tool to develop competence\, confidence\, and community for all people of all ages. This event is built as high-quality outdoor programming in its own right\, but also as a pillar of support to allow us to provide better scholarships and more opportunities to kids\, adults\, and schools in the underserved communities around us.\nGravel Hollow is a means to an end\, but it is also an end in itself. We will explore the backroads and hidden hollows of the very communities you are supporting by taking part in this event. Your entry fee and/or fundraising will directly support both Experience Learning programming and a whole host of local businesses and communities.\nWe hope you will join us for a weekend of breathtaking views and climbs\, low-traffic\, high-reward community building adventures with gravel bikers. We have three supported rides planned\, a smorgasbord of amazing local beverages and foods to enjoy\, and plenty of much-needed socializing around our yurts.

SUMMARY:Adult Running Camp
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Spruce Knob in August to train for a fall ultra marathon or trail race\, or to expand your running into the wonderful world of trail running. Based out of the Spruce Knob Mountain Center\, the home and heart of the WV Trilogy races\, we will spend three full days exploring the trails of our campus and the adjoining Seneca Creek Backcountry.\nIn 2021 we are thrilled to be able to partner with Phil Wharton of Wharton Health. Phil is world-renowned for his healing work and ability to find simple\, non-invasive solutions to achieving optimal health. Phil will be on hand to run clinics\, share miles\, and offer personalized attention to your issues. He has roots in nearby Tucker County\, WV and his gentle and supportive approach to health care has nurtured everyone from young runners to world record holders. Learn more about Phil below and stay posted for more specific updates as program development continues.\nAdditionally we welcome experienced Trilogy racer (and champion) Bob Luther. DESCRIPTION:You or a friend or family member is injured in the wilderness\, an urban disaster zone\, a remote rural area or just a few miles from cell phone service … what would you do? Learn how to save life and limb during the critical minutes or hours before ambulance/hospital hand-off.\nThe MEDIC SOLO Disaster + Travel + Wilderness First Aid Course is a blended experience of classroom and hands-on learning.  About half of student time is spent rotating as mock rescuer and mock patient in realistic care-giving scenarios\, making the most of learning-by-doing\, and forming muscle memory.\nWho: For adults and focused youths ages 14+\nWhat: Hands-on learn how to care for an injured/ill person during the critical minutes or hours before ambulance/hospital arrival. Results in a 2-year internationally-renowned SOLO WFA certification.\nWhen: August 21-22\, 2021\, 8:00am – 5:00pm each day\nCost: $245 before August 1 ($260 August 1 and after)\nHow: Blend of classroom instruction & hands-on rescue scenario practice\nCOVID Adaptations: Due to COVID-19 restrictions\, participants must bring a designated partner/co-participant for first aid practice or you will have to practice on inanimate objects! SUMMARY:Wilderness First Responder
DESCRIPTION:SOLO’s Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is the recognized industry standard for those who work as backcountry trip leaders\, camp counselors\, mountain guides\, river guides\, and ski patrollers. What is taught?The WFR is 72-80 hours long (10 days)\, and is a comprehensive and in-depth look at the standards and skills of dealing with: Response and Assessment\, Musculoskeletal Injuries\, Environmental Emergencies and Survival Skills\, Soft Tissue Injuries\, and Medical Emergencies. Although these appear to be the same basic topics covered in our two-day WFA course\, they are covered far more extensively\, and there is much more hands-on practice. Additional topics\, such as CPR\, are also included. Who is the WFR course for?The WFR is the perfect course for anyone working in a position of leadership in an outdoor setting or for individuals who want a high level of wilderness medical training for extended personal backcountry trips or expeditions. Course Options and CostsWFR: course only: $875 Includes course\, tent space\, access to bath house (price goes up to $900 July 1st) Meals:  $36 additional per night (3 meals per night\, 8 or 9 nights depending on arrival) Lodging: Beds in the dorm: $15 additional per night (8 or more nights depending on arrival and departure) Private yurt: $60 additional per night.
