SUMMARY:Augusta: Bluegrass Week
DESCRIPTION:The staff of well-known bluegrass figures will share their talents with participants in workshops\, demonstrations\, special presentations\, concerts\, and jam sessions throughout the week. Informal picking sessions at all levels go on ’til the wee hours all over campus as participants and staff get together with old friends and make new ones. Evening performances feature exciting combinations of master bluegrass artists with special guests. While workshops are geared for adults\, young folks able to maintain an adult level of participation are welcome. All workshops (except Vocals) are intended for those who can already play their instrument to some extent and are ready to start learning bluegrass style\, technique\, and repertoire.  \nBluegrass Week runs concurrently with Vocal Week; Arts\, Crafts\, & Folklore Workshops; Folk Arts for Kids; and Evening Mini-Courses. This is the first year of our Bluegrass Week and Vocal Week pairing\, and we have some exciting plans in store. Participants can take advantage of both weeks by attending special events\, afternoon electives\, swapping songs in jam sessions\, and sharing in the fun!

SUMMARY:Augusta: Vocal Week
DESCRIPTION:The act of singing is itself one of humanity’s oldest and most powerful traditions\, and many cultures’ songs are a gateway into deeper understanding of their ethos. Plus\, they’re fun to sing! Vocal Week offers you a wealth of opportunities to join in. Participants will learn songs and techniques from a range of traditional cultures and contemporary styles\, taught by nationally and internationally known workshop leaders. Taking good care of your voice will also be emphasized\, along with workshops in voice technique and daily vocal warm-ups. Those at the beginning level can learn to master melodies and simple harmonies\, while more experienced singers can get a challenging workout. Take week-long workshops during three periods each day\, sample single-day “one shot” sessions during one period each afternoon\, and sing in a large group during afternoon cultural sessions in the chapel. SUMMARY:Augusta: Blues & Swing Week
DESCRIPTION:Augusta’s Blues & Swing Week provides participants with the opportunity to work with some of the finest performers and educators in the Blues and Swing worlds. Workshops cover a variety of styles and levels of instruction on guitar\, bass\, piano\, harmonica and voice\, as well as the history of both genres. Evening activities include legendary late-night jams\, concerts\, and dances. All workshops (except Beginning Vocals) are intended for those who can already play their instrument to some extent and are ready to start learning blues & swing style\, technique and repertoire. Youth\, as well as adults\, are welcome to participate.  \nBlues & Swing Week runs concurrently with Old-Time Week; Arts\, Crafts\, & Folklore Workshops; Folk Arts for Kids; and Evening Mini-Courses. This is the first year of our Old-Time Week and Blues & Swing Week pairing\, and we have some exciting plans in store. DESCRIPTION:This year we are excited to introduce another team of outstanding workshop leaders that have both a deep connection to old-time music and a passion for sharing it. Participants will begin each day with a single morning workshop from 9 a.m. – noon with their primary workshop leader. These in-depth sessions create an intimate learning environment to develop new skills\, awareness and repertoire. Each afternoon will feature a presentation from workshop leaders and elder master musicians and an array of elective workshops. Evenings are packed with lively jams\, slow jams\, song swaps\, square dances and performances. This week is a nurturing\, friendly environment that encourages new musicians as well as seasoned players. Wherever you start\, you can be sure that by the end of the week your musicianship will have new life and depth\, and you will have new friends from around the globe.  \nOld-Time Week runs concurrently with Blues & Swing Week; Arts\, Crafts\, & Folklore Workshops; Folk Arts for Kids; and Evening Mini-Courses. DESCRIPTION:Country music borrows from folk\, pop\, blues\, swing\, and religious sources\, and yet it is distinctly different. It is easily remembered\, loves to tell a story\, and invites you to dance. The music we focus on is not from the current Nashville scene. This is classic country music from its roots\, from Jimmie Rodgers and The Carter Family\, through folks like Kitty Wells\, Merle Haggard\, and Dolly Parton\, to the soulful singing of George Jones and Vern Gosdin. During this week\, we explore this treasure trove of American music with some of the most dedicated workshop leaders doing country music today.  \nClassic Country Week runs concurrently with Cajun & Creole Week; Arts\, Crafts\, & Folklore Workshops; Folk Arts for Kids; and Evening Mini-Courses. The two weeks have been paired together since Classic Country Week began in 2010\, and the pairing creates wonderful opportunities for participants to interact through combined cultural sessions\, special evening events\, swapping tunes and songs in jam sessions\, and sharing in the fun!

DESCRIPTION:Our staff of Cajun and Creole workshop leaders keeps participants buzzing with excitement in the classroom and pulsing with energy on the pavilion dance floor! Each day starts with a fresh cup of Cajun coffee and a jam session. Workshops meet 10-11:45 a.m. and 2:30-3:45 p.m. After lunch\, everyone gathers for special presentations on Cajun and Creole music and culture.
