Make it a weekend or week-long trip by car camping along Gandy Creek. This area provides free, undeveloped roadside camping spots along Gandy Creek. A plethora of outdoor recreation opportunities exist along Gandy Creek. This creek is especially popular for fishing and horseback riding, with Johnny Meadows Campground (group equestrian site) located within the dispersed camping area. Hikers and cyclists also enjoy the trails leading in and out of Gandy Creek.

In a state with no closed fishing season, trout enthusiasts come from all over to fish for rainbows, browns, brookies, and more. Classified as one of West Virginia’s most scenic streams, Gandy is a prime trout stream, with a large population of wild brook and brown trout, as well as stocked rainbows and browns. County Route 29 runs along the stream for almost its entire length.

Primitive dispersed campsites are spread out over several miles along Gandy Creek. Some areas are tent only campsites, and there are about a dozen RV sites. All located next to the beautiful, rushing mountain stream. A few miles west of Spruce Knob and a few more miles south of Harman, the Gandy Creek Dispersed Camping Area awaits your visit.
