An event celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. takes place in Elkins each January. The community is invited to participate in the annual march and program commemorating the life and work of the famous civil rights activist.
The Elkins Cultural Awareness and Enrichment Group welcomes all to our annual celebration of the life of Martin Luther King Jr. This gathering of the community of this celebration has been going on for over 20 years.
The march normally begins at 3:45 p.m. at the Federal Building, 300 Third St., in Elkins. Participants will gather at the plaza and march on Henry Avenue and First Street to the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 113 First St. At the church, the celebration program will begin at 4 p.m. The program will feature dance, song and spoken word to celebrate King’s legacy for humanity. A community pot luck will be served after the program, with a benediction. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share and enjoy the fellowship.
