Blackwater Falls State Park

1584 Blackwater Lodge Rd, Davis, WV 26260

Located in Tucker County, Blackwater Falls State Park is named for the amber waters of Blackwater Falls, a 57-foot cascade (almost 5 stories tall) tinted by the tannic acid of fallen hemlock and red spruce needles. No matter the season, the falls are incredible to view. The state park was formally established in 1937.

The falls, along with a few of the park’s other features like Elakala Falls, Lindy Point and Pendleton Point Overlook, are some of the state’s most photographed spots. Visitors can enjoy the scenic views year-round by taking the steps to the falls or using viewing platforms. The park has 20 miles of hiking trails, a frisbee golf course, nature center, visitor services, restroom facilities, and the longest sledding magic carpet on the East Coast in the winter.

Directions from Elkins: The Blackwater Falls State Park is about an hours drive from downtown Elkins. Head towards Harman on Route 33 E. Once in Harman connect with Route 32 towards the left and drive through Canaan Valley towards the town of Davis. Once in Davis, Blackwater Falls State Park will have signage and the turnoff will be on the lefthand side right before the gas station. Begin your sightseeing here!
