D&E Appalachian Ensemble Fall Showcase @ Harper McNeeley Auditorium
November 21, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
This concert will feature the music and dance pieces that the Davis & Elkins College Appalachian Ensemble has been working on this semester, including several new pieces of choreography and new songs.
Nov 21, 2019. 7:30pm. Harper McNeeley Auditorium at the Myles Center for the Arts. FREE admission.
The Davis & Elkins College Appalachian Ensemble, a student performance group led by String Band Director Emily Miller and Dance Directors Laurie Goux and Madalyn Humphrey, is dedicated to bringing live traditional music and dance to audiences in West Virginia and beyond. Composed entirely of students attending D&E, the group features an acoustic string band (fiddle, banjo, guitar, bass and mandolin) and a team of dancers with a diverse range of expertise.
The group focuses on the intersections of different American vernacular forms and their roots, ranging from old-time music and flatfooting to jazz music and tap dance, to Irish sean nós dance, body percussion and numerous traditional American styles of harmony singing. The performances include a variety of regional dance styles, contemporary choreography, and a selection of traditional songs and tunes.
***During construction, the best place to park is behind the Myles Center for the Arts and come up the big outside staircase. If you need wheelchair access, please park in the chapel lot and proceed up the sidewalk to the left of the fitness center. You can then turn right down the hallway and pass through the construction area to the auditorium.***
