Last spring, we invited Odeya Nini to lead a workshop and Voice Bath; we are so happy to announce that she will be back this month to offer this again, and more.

This workshop is dedicated to sensing the voice, strengthening our relationship with it, and realizing the healing effects we have when we use our voice with intention and love. We will explore sound as touch, practice exercises to clear mental and physical expression, develop the imagination, and invite awareness.

The workshop begins with a Voice Bath on Friday at 6 PM – a total sound bath immersion in the healing power of the human voice, accompanied by the celestial drones of Himalayan and crystal singing bowls. Open your body, heart, and mind as you lay down and journey in meditation to the healing sound waves of changing vibration, dynamic tone, melody, emotion, and the powerful resonance of the voice. (Admission to the Voice Bath only, without the weekend portion, also includes the performance of A Solo Voice on Thursday in Thomas: $20 covers both events.)

$200 includes Voice Bath, instruction, meals, and accommodation at Saranam, PLUS the performance of A Solo Voice at Gradient Project Space on Thursday 10/17 (see details below)

Evolving over the last nine years, A Solo Voice, composed and performed by Odeya Nini, is an investigation of resonance, extended vocal techniques, performance, and pure expression, exploring the relationship between mind and body and the various landscapes it can yield. The work is a series of malleable compositions and improvisations that include field recordings and theatrical elements, aiming to dissociate the voice from its traditional attributes and create a new logic of song that is not only heard but seen through movement and action. In a multi-dimensionality that serves to both provoke and soothe in abstract communication, the voice is presented in its spectrum of natures as it travels through cultures, ages, emotions and colors, like photographs, with tender intimacy and bold aberrance.

Odeya Nini is a Los Angeles based contemporary vocalist, composer, yoga instructor, and vocal coach. Her music spans orchestral pieces to solo vocal composition, sound installations, and sound healing Voice Baths. With backgrounds including theater, somatic practices, and world music, her teaching leads people on a journey to embody the voice through pure expression of sound and emotion, mind/body awareness, and freeing the voice in a therapeutic, interdisciplinary manner. Her workshops, Voice Baths, and solo artistic work have been presented at universities, wellness centers, and concert halls from Los Angeles to Tel Aviv, Mongolia, Madagascar, and Vietnam.
In June 2016, Odeya gave birth to her first child, a sweet little boy named Taiga Kol. The journey of motherhood has added an even deeper connection to the offering and nurturing of her voice.
