Helvetia Days
October 19, 2019 @ 10:00 am - October 20, 2019 @ 5:00 pm
To celebrate our birthday, locals will share some of their skills with ‘Living History’ demonstrations (including hand-loom weaving, shingling, dry stack masonry, beekeeping, tanning, trapping, log sill repair, and more). These demonstrations are free but donations to the community are welcome.
Festivities kick off on Saturday, October 19 with an ox roast (sales of sandwiches will take place from 12:00pm-4:30pm or until supplies last). The Living History demonstrations will occur every thirty minutes during that time and our museum/archives will be open for tours and questions. At 7pm-10pm there will be a square dance at the Community Hall ($5/adult).
On Sunday, October 20 at 2pm, we’ll hike (or you’re welcome to run wink wink) the original settler’s “Historic Trail.” The 2.5 mile hike is rigorous and often muddy so bring your hiking boots and a rain coat in case of bad weather. Coffee, cocoa and light refreshments to follow at the Helvetia Star Band Hall. (Also free, but donations that will support the community are welcome).
This event is hosted by the volunteers from Helvetia’s very special organizations that bring you events like the Fair, Fasnacht, the Feast of Sankt Nicholaus, and the Ramp Supper. We are small but mighty so please give our dear volunteers hug and a thank you for carrying on.
