Smoked BBQ located in the Appalachian mountains of Elkins, WV was born in 2020 during the Covid Pandemic as a way to fight hunger in our community of Randolph County WV.
When the founders John & Jodi Calkins moved to Elkins, WV from Texas in 2015 they saw a need to help feed families, children, & individuals in the community, so they moved their ministry from Texas to WV. Pioneer Trails Ministry is self funded by John & Jodi with a minimal amount of donations or grants from others. Therefore when Covid shut down all the food pantry’s in the community they knew they had to step in and help.
They used all of their savings to purchase a food truck, & stepped out in faith to tackle hunger problem during the pandemic.
In the past two years they have fed over 150,000 pounds of food in the county, and fed over 7,000 meals with proceeds from
Smoked BBQ in Elkins.
