Blackwater Outdoors Adventures is the closest whitewater outfitter to Elkins. Just a 30-minute drive from downtown Elkins, you and your friends or family can take advantage of adventures on the water. BOA’s river outpost and general store in historic St. George, West Virginia will equip you with everything you need for your water expedition.
Whitewater trips are offered every day of the week throughout the summer as long as conditions are appropriate. There are plenty of opportunities on the Cheat River for both kids and adults. If whitewater doesn’t appeal to you, BOA also rents quality canoes, sit-on-top kayaks, and tubes for floating on the flat water of the Cheat River. Pack a picnic lunch, a fishing pole, and binoculars for the possibility of catching a glimpse of wildlife like bald eagles. You can also try Stand Up Paddle Boarding on the flat water of the Cheat River.
Directions from Elkins: Take Rt. 219 N to Parsons, go straight through the traffic light at Parsons onto Rt. 72 N- go 6 miles and look for the sign that reads “Horseshoe Recreation Area next right” – take that right and Blackwater Outdoors Adventures is immediately on the right hand side- a big white house next to the river.
