Statue of Minnehaha
100 Executive Plaza, Elkins, WV 26241
Minnehaha is the fictional lover of Hiawatha, from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s epic poem Hiawatha.
The statue, which weighs approximately 800 pounds, was erected in 1983 and was created by Frank Ours, of Signs by Ours in Parsons, WV. The original statue was made from concrete, but it crumbled and toppled in 1986. After 15 months, Minnehaha returned to Elkins, this time made from fiberglass. Time and time again Minnehaha continues to get a makeover with new paint.
Minnehaha will always welcome visitors back to Elkins.
