Rail fans rejoice! The Elkins Winter Special is returning for 2026 and tickets are on sale now!
This scenic train excursion departs from Elkins and travels along the Tygart Valley River to its confluence with the Buckhannon River at Tygart Junction. New for 2026 – this year’s trip includes a 45-minute stop on the return trip at the historic Golden Rule building in the railyard in Belington, where you can shop local wares and learn about the area’s railroad history.
This 4-hour trip will run on Fridays and Saturdays from January 16th through February 28th. The train runs in all weather: rain, snow, or shine! Winter is the perfect time of year for unobstructed views of several rivers and the former industrial towns along them, plus rapids and Wilmoth Falls.
Don’t worry about the cold – these historic train cars are climate-controlled. Like the New Tygart Flyer excursion, a cold lunch is included with your ticket, and expanded meal and drink options are available with a Parlor Car upgrade (these sell out quickly).
Now you can enjoy a scenic train ride in Elkins almost anytime of the year! Reserve your spot today!
