Day 1

Elkins

Experience the New Tygart Flyer and a 6-Course Meal at The Forks

Breakfast

Award-winning TipTop Coffee Shop has exactly what you need to start your day! Matcha, coffee, latte or affogato–you can’t choose wrong. Try a scrumptious bagel, locally-sourced, along with delicious pastries.

Morning

  1. This morning you’ll check in around 10:30am with the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad at the Elkins Depot Welcome Center your train ride through the Monongahela National Forest to the High Falls of Cheat–a remote and beautiful waterfall on the West Virginia Waterfall Trail.

Lunch

A delicious cold-cut buffet will be provided aboard the train, included with your ticket. Eat up as you take in views of the Monongahela National Forest from your passenger car.

Afternoon

  1. Welcome back to the Elkins Depot! Shop in the Rail and Trail Store and find your perfect souvenir to take home with you.
  2. Head to the Appalachian Forest Discovery Center and West Virginia Railroad Museum and learn more about the unique history and culture of Elkins and Randolph County.
  3. Enjoy a stroll downtown at the many shops–perhaps a cup of afternoon coffee from The Crossing Coffee Bar will perk you up as you explore.

Dinner

Since libations are the focus of this itinerary–you can’t miss out on the legendary cocktails available at The Forks. May we suggest the Ginger Bourbon Martini? The Forks also presents the great opportunity of checking off a restaurant on the West Virginia Culinary Trail.

Day 2

Job & Ekins

Discover a remote distillery and relax at an award-winning brewery

Breakfast

Grab a hot coffee or tea and enjoy the wide variety of options such as sausage biscuits and gravy, a breakfast sandwich, fruit and yogurt, or delicious pastries from Great Harvest Baking before you make your way to Still Hollow Distillery for a tasting and tour!

Morning

  1. Hit the road and begin your journey to Still Hollow Distillery. From Elkins head East on US 33 for 17 miles and then make the right onto Rich Mountain Rd, before finally turning left onto Rich Mountain Rd/Whitmer Rd. You’ll continue to follow Rich Mountain Rd and see signs for the distillery ahead! Open Wednesday-Thursday
    from 12-5pm and Friday-Sunday 11am – 5pm – calling ahead is a good idea if you’re wanting a tour and have a large party (304) 227-4692.
  2. Enjoy a tour and learn what makes Still Hollow Spirits unique. Using local ingredients and mountain spring water right from the farm and focus on small batch, traditional Appalachian moonshine methods.

Lunch

Hop in your car and travel back towards Elkins and stop at Smoke on Water for lunch on the deck. Enjoy your pulled pork, ribs, seafood, and more! Order the blackberry old-fashioned as a cocktail or enjoy a local brew on draft.

Afternoon

  1. Let’s take a stroll in downtown Elkins, discovering the many niche shops, including Fancy Paws where you can pick up something for your furry friend to take home, or the perfect book from Alexandria on Main.
  2. The City of Elkins enforces 3-hour parking downtown during the day until 5 pm, but feel free to park in the City of Elkins parking lot or at the Elkins Depot Welcome Center all day.
  3. Continue to walk south on Davis Ave until you reach Big Timber Brewing. Sit back and enjoy the taproom’s ambiance, opt for river views on the deck, or enjoy the possibility of live music! Make sure to grab a Big Timber t-shirt, hat, or other available merchandise.

Dinner

Discover the essence of West Virginia at the Oxley House in Elkins’ historic Tygart Hotel. Enjoy Appalachian cuisine, specialty cocktails, local craft beer, and delicious desserts. Dine on the patio, relax at the full-service bar, enjoy the ambiance of the dining room, or take your meal to go.

Day 3

Mill Creek Falls & Elkins

Experience Randolph County's newest brewery

Breakfast

Voted as one of the best donuts in the state, you cannot miss out on tasting some donuts from Byrd’s House of Donuts. Yeast or cake, filled or maple-topped, you’ll be thinking about these donuts long after your vacation ends.

On your way out of town pick up a to-go lunch from Ging Rolls and Pancit (open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) to enjoy while you explore Kumbrabow State Forest. Explore other dining options for other days of the week.

Morning

  1. Travel to Kumbrabow State Forest, where you’ll find hiking trails, and Mill Creek Falls, one of the waterfalls on the West Virginia Waterfall Trail.
  2. Take US-219 S/US-250 S just over 18 miles. Stay on US-219 S and continue on for 13 miles and then turn right onto Turkey Bone Rd and follow the signs to Kumbrabow State Forest.
  3. Make sure to check in at the waterfall and snap some photos of this picturesque attraction.

Lunch

Enjoy your packed lunch at Kumbrabow State Forest.

Afternoon

  1. Drive back to the town of Beverly and discover the historic town’s attractions, including the Beverly Heritage Center.
  2. Pick up a Self-Guided Walking Tour of the town and learn about the unique Civil War history and view the historic homes and structures.
  3. Stop by Beverly Historic Antiques and meander through the store to find some take home treasures.

Dinner

Discover Elkins’ newest brewery, Fox Hops Brewery! Delicious sharables including fried pickles, pimento cheese bites, or choose a juicy bratwurst or burger while sipping on craft beer. Cheers to the end of your vacation!
