Highland Scenic Highway

US219, RT150, , WV 26241

The Highland Scenic Highway, a designated National Scenic Byway, is a beautiful corridor through the National Forest. This Highway extends 43 miles from Richwood to US Route 219. It has four developed scenic overlooks. Each site provides a comfortable rest stop, with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The Highway traverses the mountainous terrain of the Allegheny Highlands and Plateau, and rises from Richwood, elevation 2,325 feet, to over 4,500 feet along the Parkway.

In order to get to the National Scenic Highway from Elkins, you will take US 219 to Huttonsville. This route will take you through the flat, farmland of Tygart Valley. Huttonsville has a gas station and a Subway before you make the next stretch of road.
You will stay on US 219 to make your way to Mingo and Snowshoe. Pass the town of Snowshoe and rise up the mountain to turn right onto Route 150 to the Highland Scenic Highway.

Remember, in order to come back to Elkins you would need to take the same route (this is NOT a loop). If you want a different option, you will need to exit the Highway to the left onto WV-39 E/WV-55 E towards Millpoint, WV where you will then turn left to merge back onto US219 towards Marlinton and follow the route back to Elkins.
