Late winter is the sweetest time of the year in West Virginia. Cold nights and warmer days means it’s maple syrup season! Each year, West Virginians celebrate all things maple during Mountain State Maple Days.
Enjoy the sweet experience of maple syrup and earn free prizes! Taste fresh maple syrup at local restaurants and special events, see how it’s made by visiting a sugar camp, or buy some to take home with you. Visit these participating locations in the Allegheny Highlands and collect points on Driftscape to claim your rewards! Visit 3 locations to get a free sticker, and 5 places for a Maple Days pin! See our list of maple attractions in Randolph County on the following map and list:
Pickens Maple Syrup Festival: two days of festivities March 21-22 include All-You-Can-Eat pancakes and buckwheat cakes with locally made maple syrup, trips to Richter’s sugar camp, crafters and vendors, wood chopping, a photography show, and live entertainment.
Sugar camp tours: taste syrup straight from the source by visiting Ice’s Farm at Blue Rock (March 21 only) or Spruce Knob Maple.
Sweet eats: Find seasonal specials at our local restaurants including maple rings and maple cream donuts at Byrd’s House of Donuts.
Syrup for sale: grab some West Virginia-made maple syrup to take home with you at Delmonte Market, Swiss Roots, the Charm Farm, or Shop & Save and browse their selection of local crafts and specialty food.
How does it work?
View the list of maple-themed locations on the map above or open this link on your phone or desktop. While you’re at that location, simply click “Collect Points”. You’ll earn 5 points per attraction you visit. 15 points are required to receive a sticker, and 25 are required for a pin. Once you’ve collected enough points, just click “Redeem Points” on the left menu or map listing, and you’ll receive instructions how to receive your reward!
Note: Some our rural communities have limited-to-no cell service, so we recommend that you download the Driftscape app and use the SAVE FOR OFFLINE feature to load our map to your phone for offline use (see how-to guide here). If that does not work, just click “Collect Points” on the listing once you have wifi or cell service.
No purchase is necessary, but we encourage you to support our local businesses!
