It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since the Tygart Hotel opened its doors and began welcoming guests to the heart of downtown Elkins. In that time, they’ve connected with locals, hosted travelers from across the country, and built partnerships that reflect the heart of the Appalachian spirit.
Now, they’re throwing a party to celebrate—and everyone’s invited!
We sat down with Shane Jones, the Tygart Hotel General Manager, to talk about their April 25th celebration, the meaning behind Tygart Together, and how this free community event is a love letter to Elkins and the community.
Q: What inspired the idea for “Tygart Together: A Celebration of Community Growth”?
A: This past year has been incredible. We’ve had the honor of becoming part of the downtown Elkins community—welcoming visitors, supporting local makers, and joining in on the revival of this beautiful town. “Tygart Together” is our way of saying thank you. It’s a celebration of how far we’ve all come—and we want the entire community to be part of it.
Q: When and where is the event happening?
A: The celebration takes place on Friday, April 25th, from 5PM to 10PM. We’ll be closing down Davis Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Streets for a full-on block party. It’s free, family-friendly, and open to everyone.
Q: What can folks expect at the event?
A: We’ve packed the evening with something for all ages:
• Live music from local favorites Beyond the Barrier and The Family Foundation.
• A Kids Festival with activities supported by amazing partners like the Interactive Children’s Museum, Old Brick Playhouse, and Davis Trust Company.
• A Beer & Wine Garden featuring Big Timber Brewing and curated wines from Oxford Street Wine.
• Delicious street food and Appalachian flavors, with options from the Oxley House Cocktail Bar & Restaurant and other local vendors.
• And one of the biggest highlights—the premiere of our short documentary, “The Land Kept Us.”
Q: Tell us more about the documentary—what’s it about?
A: The Land Kept Us is a tribute to Elkins and the people who shape its story. It’s a visual journey through the landscapes, voices, and values that make this place so magnetic. Whether you’re born-and-raised or newly arrived, this film explains why so many of us are proud to call this town home—or to keep coming back.
Q: How have local businesses been involved in planning the celebration?
A: This event wouldn’t be possible without them. We’ve partnered with organizations like the Randolph County Humane Society, Mora Bakery, Gingrollsandpancit, Oxford Street Merchants, and so many more. Each partner adds their own magic to the evening—and that’s what makes Tygart Together so special. It’s a celebration by the community, for the community.
Q: Is this part of something bigger for the season?
A: Absolutely. The very next day is the Ramps & Rails Festival—a perfect follow-up that brings even more life and flavor to downtown. We’re excited to welcome visitors back and show them what Elkins is all about in 2025.
Q: How can someone get involved, whether as a guest or business partner?
A: If you’re interested in participating as a business or vendor, just reach out to Shane Jones, General Manager, at (304) 924-4279. If you’re thinking of booking a room or a dinner reservation, visit TygartHotel.com or give us a call at the same number.
Q: Any final thoughts you’d like to share with the community?
A: Whether you’ve been with us since day one, just recently discovered us, or are simply curious—we’d love for you to come out and celebrate. Let’s raise a glass, share a meal, and keep building something beautiful together. Tygart Together is more than a party—it’s a reflection of what makes Elkins shine.
