Randolph County, West Virginia has been a longtime hub for artists, artisans, and art aficionados. Now, it seems like everyday there is something new for art lovers to enjoy from new exhibits and new venues to new shops and new events. Here’s just a handful of the most recent new ways to experience the arts in Randolph County.

New Public Art Installations

Elkins was the first of several communities to receive a new sculpture as part of the “Paint & Paddle” project spearheaded by WVU professor Terese Giobbia, muralist Kelson Thorne, and South Branch Career and Technical Center. This “canoe kiosk” combines public art with outdoor recreation. The canoe sculpture features original paintings celebrating Elkins’ arts traditions, and has brochures and a QR code with regional recreation info in the Mon Forest Towns region. The kiosk is located at the intersection of Railroad Ave and 2nd St between the Appalachian Forest Discovery Center and the Elkins Depot Welcome Center.

“Patchwork Sky” is a new installation by Nevada Tribble as part of her Department of Daydreams series. Located just a few blocks from the canoe kiosk outside the Delmonte Market and Crossing Coffee Bar, Patchwork Sky is made of a mix of handwoven and hand-crocheted paracord and colorful deep-sea fishing line. Take a moment to look up and notice the sky through the open patches in the art piece.

New Shops & Galleries

Several new businesses have opened, offering even more opportunities to take home some local hand-made treasures. At Pebble Nest Studio & Shop you can find original necklaces, bracelets, earrings, or even make your own at their Charm Bar or at a workshop. Watch regionally renowned watercolor artist Rosalie Haizlett at work in her studio at Meander, and browse her original prints and books. Small but historic downtown Beverly is home to two new shops offering hand-crafted goods. Find hand-sewn items at C Sew, and Valley Collective offers handmade creatures by Fidgets along with upcycled goods and antiques from multiple vendors.

New Performing Arts Venue

Unwind with a show at the Railyard Event & Conference Center. Their high-energy music and dance performances cover classic hits that the whole family can enjoy. Catch the Echoes of Icons show on Fridays or Memories on the Mainline show on Saturdays when in season, or check out special performances from nationally touring music and comedy acts throughout the year. The facility not only hosts weekly entertainment, but it also showcases beautiful works by local artists that highlight the area’s history!
