Here you can access hundreds of miles of trails and routes to explore anytime of the year, or take advantage of a handful of not-to-miss events.
Minetana XC
The Minetana XC is an annual mountain bike race event that takes participants on a fast-paced, thrilling tour of the beautiful Mower Basin Trails (aka the Mower Tract). Held annually on Memorial Day weekend, Minetana XC is a WVMBA-sanctioned Cross Country race with one day of tours and guided rides of the course and one day of racing. The race loops feature fast-flowing single track, grueling climbs, high-speed flats, and technical rock gardens.
Gravel Ride Up Spruce Knob
Ride all the way to the top of West Virginia’s highest peak during the Gravel Ride Up Spruce Knob (aka GRUSK). GRUSK is one of West Virginia’s largest gravel cycling event, drawing over a thousand attendees with over 300 miles of courses through the Monongahela National Forest. The ride travels gravel and dirt roads through beautiful scenery with varying conditions from pavement, to smooth dirt, to chunky gravel, to unmaintained, double-track forest roads. GRUSK uses a non-competitive, timed Gran Fondo style format.
Woodly’s Great Gravel Adventure
Woodly’s Great Gravel Adventure is new to the West Virginia Gravel Series, and is presented by the Mountain State Forest Festival, one of the largest and oldest festivals in West Virginia. The race is named after the festival’s mascot, Woodly the Elf. The second annual event will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026. This year’s race will traverse through the beautiful Cheat-Potomac District of the Monongahela National Forest. The event includes a short, medium, and long course (plus an e-bike course) with the majority of the race on gravel roads, plus some rail trail and paved roads mixed in.
